How Does This Medicine Work?

PROGESTAN 200 MG is a natural hormone that can be prescribed to supplement estrogen therapy during or after menopause. It can also be prescribed when there is a deficiency of progesterone, such as in certain disorders of the menstrual cycle.

When Should Progestan (Progesterone) 200 MG Not Be Administered?

  • Serious liver diseases, such as jaundice, inflammation of the liver (hepatitis), a tumor in the liver, or the rare liver diseases Rotor syndrome and Dubin-Johnson syndrome. Also, it should not be administered if the liver has not fully recovered after such a serious condition.
  • Unexpected bleeding from the vagina (vulva)
  • Certain conditions that have occurred or worsened during pregnancy or previous hormone use; namely: jaundice, severe itching, skin rashes in the form of vesicles (herpes gestationis), a metabolic disease of the liver (porphyria), or an inherited form of deafness (otosclerosis).

Directions for Use:

  1. Adhere strictly to the instructions of your physician or pharmacist.
  2. Dosage: The usual dosage is 200 or 300 mg of progesterone (2 or 3 capsules) per day for 12-14 days per month. At a dose of 300 mg per day, take one capsule in the morning and two capsules at night before bed. At 200 mg daily, the total daily dose (2 capsules) should be taken before bedtime.
  3. How to take it: Swallow the capsules without chewing with, for example, half a glass of water. Always do so at the same time.
  4. Missed Dose: If you are treated with three capsules a day and you forget a morning or evening dose, do not take the forgotten dose again and take the rest of the capsules as usual. However, if you are treated with two capsules per day (total dose before bedtime) and you forget a dose, you should take one capsule the next morning and then continue with two capsules before bedtime as usual.

Progestan 200 MG Side Effects

Progestin may cause the following side effects, depending on the dosage and sensitivity of the patient:

  • Blood loss from the vagina (beyond normal monthly bleeding),
  • Irregular menstrual cycle,
  • Sensitive breasts,
  • Nausea,
  • Dizziness,
  • Drowsiness,
  • Fatigue,
  • Headache or migraine.

Further side effects attributed to progestogens (substances like progesterone) that may also potentially occur during treatment with Progestan include:

  •  Gastrointestinal symptoms (other than nausea)
  • Stretch marks (blotchy discoloration of the skin)
  • Skin rash
  • Jaundice
  • Depressed mood
  • Increase or decrease in sex drive
  • Omission of monthly bleeding

Summary:

Progestan 200 MG can be used to supplement estrogen therapy during menopause and in the period afterward. It prevents the endometrium from being overstimulated by estrogens and therefore reduces the risk of uterine cancer. A few days after finishing a course of Progestan, the endometrium may loosen. This can be accompanied by bleeding (just like normal menstruation). If there is a shortage of progesterone, as in certain disorders of the menstrual cycle, Progestan may help to make up for the shortage.
